It's been a pretty uneventful week since Monday's problem with seizures but a little tweak with the meds seems to have worked.  Lots of doctors appointments this week and the nurses came out to the house to visit almost every day to check on us but Dave has been feeling pretty good.
Last night we drove over to Mona Lisa in Little Italy with Kelly and Dan to have pizza.  We got there early, parked right out front and got home before dark - oh no, we've turned into senior citizens!!!
Today we drove to the ferry landing, rented a surry and rode around Tidelands Park. I'm not going to say that one of us did most of the pedalling but... it was fun to be out in the sun getting a little exercise ;-)

So Dave just asked me what I wrote today - Oooh the pressure!  I had to tell him 'nothing - no news is good news.'
The steroids really do the job. He's been feeling really good today, enough so to walk through Smart & Final to find the sherbet :-)

Not a good day. Dave was a little out of it last night and this morning he had a couple of small seizures. Probably from stepping down the steroids too quickly so back up to maximum dose and add a little more anti-seizure med to the stew. Offhand I can't remember exactly how many pills he takes in a day but it is definitely more than two dozen!
Kudos to my kids today. Kelly and Robert are my heroes :-)

Dave's feeling MUCH better tonight and we'll go back to UCSD on Thursday to get checked out.
I'm taking prayers for patience...

We had a great weekend in Lake Arrowhead!  Dave got to his meeting on time and I got to sit outside and catch up on my reading.  It was 90 degrees and there was still snow on the ground!  We went to all of our favorite restaurants and caught up with a few friends. Dave seems to be feeling pretty good and was able to walk quite a distance last night to get to dinner.  We love it in the mountains but glad to be back home.

I was a little anxious about going away for the weekend.  Since we were there two nights I had to take Dave's IV stuff so I could change the bags and flush the lines Saturday night.  I was worried that I'd forget something but we did okay -except for one little tiny itsy bitsy thing that presented itself at 2:am...  Dave's pump started beeping and woke us up.  I couldn't figure it out so I had to phone the on-call nurse and leave a message for her to call me back.  We finally got it figured out (I had forgotten to reset something) and got back to sleep and then my phone rang at 3:am... It was the nurse calling to make sure we had remembered to turn the pump back on - I'm glad I'm not the only one who has senior moments :-)

We're throwing caution to the wind and heading to Lake Arrowhead this afternoon.  Dave is on the Board of Directors for the timeshare that we have and their quarterly meeting is tomorrow morning.  If he's up for it then so am I !
Looking foward to sitting in the sun and enjoying the fresh air!

Well, yesterday we went back to UCSD for an MRI and to see the clinical trial doctor.  Let me just say that UCSD should take lessons from Sharp Hospital when it comes to patient care.  It took us til almost noon to find someone to remove Dave's IV pump so he could have his 9:30 MRI.  Everyone I talked to told me to go see someone else in another part of the building.  I'm grateful that Robert was with us to stay with Dave while I chased around the building.  Thank you for letting me vent!

Anyway, the MRI showed no change...  and we are taking that as a good thing.  Dave hasn't had any cancer treatment since before surgery on March 7 so no growth is good.  We are STILL getting IV AND oral antibiotics for the infection and until that is cleared up the clinical trial doctor won't talk to us about what we might expect as far as treatment - but he does want to see us weekly now.  We're back to praying for patience!

Dave continues to amaze me every day!  This morning we got up and went to church and to our regular place for breakfast.  Sometimes it takes Herculean effort just to get dressed, much less climb up and down the stairs!. I don't know how he gets himself out of bed in the morning but he wakes up every day with such a can-do attitude. It's 158 days today that he's a survivor. :-)
I'd like to give a big thank you shout-out to our neighbor Patty.  She came to visit this morning with muffins, fruit, quiche and lasagne - she fed us ALL day!

Yes, we went to the movies today and yes, it was the stupidest thing I ever saw but it made us laugh. Larry, Moe & Curly (sic) saved the orphanage :-)
Dave's been frustrated the last few days. Wants to get started with treatment - any treatment ... Just get started!  Today we were sitting in front of the movie theater and a little girl with leg braces and canes hobbled in and he said "I guess I don't really have anything to complain about. I've had the opportunity to run and swim and that girl will never know what that is like."   Goes to show there's always someone worse off. Shooting for church and pancakes in the morning ;-)

Well we've had a great week. Dave is CRANKY but that means he's feeling good enough to be frustrated with the whole medical system. He is STILL on IV antibiotics so no cancer treatment yet. We go back to the clinical trial guy at UCSD on Tuesday and get a new MRI. Hopefully it will show that the infection is shrinking and we can at least talk about what to do next.
The steroids are doing their thing taking care of brain swelling but they've made everything on the outside puff up and they cause weakness in Dave's joints. Walking is a chore and getting up and down the stairs takes planning!
Today we're going to take it easy and try to go see  'The Three Stooges' this afternoon. Yes, the sense of humor is still sophomoric :-)

When the doctor first gave us the bad news about Dave's cancer, we were worried that he might not see his next birthday. Well, that came and went last month, and we just ate the last of the Easter candy!
Dave is doing great. He is horribly puffed up because of the steroids but his headaches have been gone and he gets around the house pretty well... Never mind the stairs!  This morning he got up before me and when I came downstairs he was mixing up pancakes. I broke bad on him but secretly was happy to see that he was so motivated.
We had a great NORMAL day today. I stayed home from work and we went to the dentist, ran errands and best of all... Went to the golf course and Dave got out a club and putted for a bit! It was sweet to be out in the sun. I shagged balls for him then we sat out on the patio and enjoyed the day. Let's have more days like this :-)
